Meraj Zafar is accused of killing his partner Aminah Hyatt, which was found by police in an acid-filled bathtub at the couple’s home in Sydney, Australia.
A few days ago the suspected killer had posted on social media a photo embracing his girlfriend.
Meraj Zafar, passionate about bodybuilding is accused of killing 19-year-old Aminah Hyatt, before leaving her body in a bathtub filled with acid, where her remains were found on Sunday by police.
The couple reportedly got married a few weeks ago, though there is no confirmation of the detail.
Court documents say that Hayat had more than a day in the state found, writes the British daily Daily Mail.
Her relatives worried about the lack of contacts had alerted police on Sunday, who had forcibly entered the apartment to uncover the horrific scene.
Authorities launched an extensive search for Zafar, but the suspected killer surrendered only a few hours later.
The tragic victim Hayat had come from Bangladesh to Australia, before becoming acquainted with who would become her killer.
They were reportedly married after weeks of romance, in a move that angered the families of both partners.
Hayat’s mother and father, Abu and Mahafuza, though devastated by the event, spoke of the tragedy with the Australian network news.com.au.
The father said: “We all hoped she would become a doctor. “She wanted to help people.”
Zafar owned a truck he was working with and a BMW car which was searched and seized by authorities.
The case will be heard in Parramatta court on April 5.
Local police chief Julie Boon said in a statement: “Officers stormed into the apartment and found a woman inside. I can confirm that there were chemicals in the bathtub, we can not confirm what they were. The crime scene was difficult when the police came. “When they came and found the chemicals, they withdrew and called in specialized units for help.”
