The Central Election Commission on Monday returned the answer to the President of the Republic Ilir Meta regarding the vacancies created in some municipalities of the country.
In a response to the President, the CEC states that only three vacancies have been notified in the municipalities of Vora, Shkodra and Dibra.
According to the letter of the CEC, this institution has been notified about the dismissal of Agim Kajmaku in Vora, the ban on the candidacy of Valdrin Pjetri in Shkodra and the resignation of Dionis Imeraj in Debar.
Meanwhile, the municipalities of Durrës, Rrogozhinë and Lushnje are without a mayor.
In Durrës, Valbona Sako resigned a few days after the November 26 earthquake, the mayor of Rrogozhina passed away, while Fatos Tushe, who runs Lushnja, was arrested by the SPAK.
President Ilir Meta announced last Friday that he has started the procedures for announcing early by-elections for some municipalities in the country.
He waited until the clarification of the decision of the Constitutional Court on the legality of the elections held in June 2019, which were boycotted by the opposition and were repealed by presidential decree.
Meta attacked the Constitutional Court ‘for lack of accountability’ in connection with the decision taken by it in November 2021, a decision that rejected the request of the Association of Municipalities to repeal these elections as unconstitutional.
Justifying the delay in announcing the by-elections with the awaiting of a decision by the Constitutional Court, Meta announced the immediate start of the proceedings by sending a letter to the CEC, requesting official information on vacancies in local government.
