The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, together with the Minister of Education Evis Kushi, participated in the ceremony of awarding certificates to the winning students in the third phase of the national olympiads 2020-2021, which took place at the Artistic High School “Jordan Misja ” in Tirana.
Veliaj praised the fact that investments in education, such as the hall “Tonin Harapi” in the school “Jordan Misja”, are key in terms of development of the education system in our country, which is reflected in young people winning such national competitions, but also internationally, as he expressed special gratitude to the teachers for their dedication.
When I think about how much work we have done in Tirana, like this beautiful nest here – “Tonin Harapi” hall – I am hopeful that we have made an investment that serves all of you. The fact that today we have boys and girls who won the Olympics and came out successful, means that when we Albanians set our eyes on something, when we have a collaboration between a diligent student and a dedicated teacher, there is nothing stopping us. “Today I am very proud, not only of those who receive medals, but also of the teachers who have contributed with their dedication,” said Veliaj.
The Mayor invited the young winners of the Olympics to apply in the call of the Municipality of Tirana for projects for the year where Tirana will be the European Capital of Youth.
“I can not wait for next year when we will be the European Capital of Youth. I see as a great opportunity the call for projects or activities, which will be open until January 28! You can apply as a school or for a concert, ensemble or Olympics, but we always want to invite friends from the region, or from all over Europe, to really show the European face of the city of Tirana. “This will be the year when we will have the largest budget ever in the Republic of Albania in our city for the youth, even for investments for boys and young girls, and the sky is the limit of what we can do together,” he declared.
While, the Minister of Education, Evis Kushi emphasized the new curricula in pre-university education which, as she said, are the basis in every Olympiad held.
“Today we have a new curriculum in pre-university education, which is based on competencies to make students capable, and based on this new curriculum are organized all the Olympiads in all subjects. What makes me happy is the fact that we have participants from all cities of the country. We have a very high turnout. There are 30 thousand students who participated in the first phase and today we have 103 winners, “said Kushi.
