The head of the Russian region of Chechnya said today that he supports Moscow’s intervention in Ukraine and that thousands of Chechen soldiers are ready to assist the Russian armed forces.
The leader of the Chechen republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, had gathered 12,000 local volunteers yesterday in the main square of the capital Grozny, shouting war cheers.
Kadyrov said the rally was organized to show support for the Kremlin and a willingness to help achieve the goals.
“These are volunteers ready to launch an operation at any time to secure our state and our people,” he said. Kadyrov told the media that the troops would not be deployed without receiving orders from Supreme Commander Putin.
Chechen Minister Akhmed Dudayev said the purpose of the gathering was to demonstrate that the troops were ready to follow orders to defend the homeland.
“It was a staff readiness procedure.” said Dudayev, “a check of readiness to implement the orders of the commander, the president of the country,Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. “
Kadyrov said in a speech in Grozny that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should apologize to Putin.
“I take this opportunity to advise incumbent Ukrainian President Zelensky to call our commander, Vladimir Putin, and apologize for not doing so.”
“He must do it to save Ukraine, to apologize and to accept all the conditions demanded by Russia, this would be to take a more correct and patriotic step,” said the Chechen leader.
