For more than a week now, Ukraine has been facing the attack of Russian military troops, with the latter being on Ukrainian territory and causing more and more casualties every day.
A good part of the Ukrainian citizens have decided to stay and fight for their country, and if it were not for the little girl and his family, the Manchester City footballer Oleksandr Zinchenko would have done the same. In an interview with the BBC, the defender states that he knows well the mentality of his patriots and added that they would rather die than not defend their country.
“A week has passed since my country is at war and I can not hold back the tears. Even when I’m in the car coming back from the training center, I start to cry too. I always have my mind there, I imagine the place where I was born and raised. Now there is nothing there, it is an empty space.
I can show you thousands of photos and videos of each of the cities that have been destroyed. This is a real war, what they are doing there is not acceptable and should be stopped as soon as possible. People from Ukraine send me facts about what is happening, they are hungry, they have no more food and they are sleeping in bunkers.
To be honest, if it were not for my daughter or family I too would be in Ukraine fighting. I know the mentality of my people, they will choose to die and not give up. I am very proud to be Ukrainian and will be for the rest of my life. When I see people fighting for their lives, I have no words to describe it“, Said Zinchenko./ Supersport
