Chinese authorities had announced the plan to eliminate all pets of a Covid-19-infected area, but canceled the extreme plans after residents got angry.
The unheard of action by Langfang city officials included the seizure and disappearance of pets of the Anci area in northern Hubei province, but shocked residents raised their voices against the officials and the directive was withdrawn.
It is not clear how many animals were killed before the withdrawal but the local network ‘China News Service’ reported that its implementation was stopped around 17.00
There have been several cases of human-to-animal transmission of the virus but no confirmed spread again from animals to humans.
