On Monday, January 17, 2022, at the headquarters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in Auvers-sur-Oise (north of Paris) was held a conference entitled “Keep the Iranian regime responsible for genocide, terrorism and nuclear challenge. ”.
The NCRI President-elect, Ms. Maryam Rajavi and a number of prominent European politicians, including Guy Verhofstadt, MEP and Prime Minister of Belgium (1999-2008), Frederic Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden (2006-2014), John Bercow, Speaker of the UK Joint Chamber (2009) -2019); and Franco Frattini, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy (2002-2004 and 2008-2011) and the European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security (2004-2008), attended and addressed the Conference.
In her keynote address, Ms. Rajavi described the situation in which the clerical regime was overthrown and said: “This situation is primarily due to the determination of the Iranian people for a fundamental change. “The regime has no choice but to suppress the insurgency, but only through repression.” Referring to the deep roots of the Iranian Resistance in the heart of Iranian society and its support for a movement of rebellious youth and fighters, as well as its role in the fight against extremism under the banner of Islam, she underlined that this resistance has the power to bring about democratic change in Iran.
Recalling the West’s failed experience in supporting the Shah’s dictatorship until the last months of his rule, she stressed the need for a correct and responsible policy by the international community, especially the West, to stand by the Iranian people and recognize his struggle to overthrow the regime. This is the inalienable right of the Iranian people. In another part of her speech, Ms. Rajavi reiterated that the Iranian regime with the creation of the atomic bomb wants to find a way out of the current crisis, which has endangered its existence.
The regime’s nuclear projects are completely against the national interests of the Iranian people. Negotiating with a regime that does not respect any rule or law only gives it time. The international community must reinstate the six UN Security Council resolutions on the Iranian regime’s nuclear projects. It must completely stop the regime’s uranium enrichment and close the regime’s nuclear facilities. Unconditional inspections are necessary to prevent the regime from gaining access to an atomic bomb.
In his words, Mr. Verhofstadt questioned the impunity enjoyed by the regime.
“The crisis of impunity in Iran peaked in June when Raisi was appointed president of the regime. He is one of the main perpetrators of the 1988 mass murder of more than 30,000 political prisoners. Instead of being tried for crimes against humanity, he is taking over the presidency. This shows that impunity prevails in Iran. “Architects and perpetrators of genocide must always be brought to justice,” he said, adding, “Instead of keeping silent, we must put our concerns about human rights violations in the forefront.” A strong policy should also be linked to the nuclear deal with Iran. Talks with Iran should not be smoke to not address the human rights conditions in Iran.
“Every agreement should include a chapter on human rights and the rule of law in Iran.” Mr Bercow said: “I support your call for a secular and democratic republic and I support Mrs Rajavi’s ten-point plan for a free Iran. The 1988 massacre must be investigated. “Ebrahim Raisi should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.”
“He is a disgrace,” he added. Bercow, noting that “democracies must recognize that there is a key difference between the treatment of other democracies and relations with other countries whose regimes are undemocratic. The conciliatory approach has yielded no results. “This is a clear message to the regime that if they do not suspend their nuclear program, UN sanctions will be re-imposed.” Expressing his support for the protests of the Iranian people, he added: “Not the Shah, not the religious dictatorship, not theocracy, but democracy.”
In his speech, Mr. Reinfeldt said, “Raisi is not in support of the Iranian people. He was chosen among several men to retain control of the regime. The situation in Iran is particularly worrying. There is a very dangerous combination. It unites authoritarianism and religious dictatorship. “In the name of Islam, they say it is right to hate each other and kill people.” He added, “We need Europe to unite and stand up for values and to back down against authoritarian rules, including the mullahs in Iran.
“They are a threat to the world by abusing Islam, seeking nuclear weapons and destabilizing the region.” Joining the video conference, Mr. Frattini said: “What should we do with this tyranny, this terrible regime that abuses basic, non-negotiable rights, that kills thousands and thousands? Some people say there are differences between reformists and conservatives.
This is not true. I was part of the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program in 2003, during the so-called reformist Khatami government. Those people were no different from those in office today. They wanted to get guarantees to have a free hand to commit abuses against their people. “They are the same.” He added, “Another argument is that we should lift sanctions because sanctions are affecting innocent people. This is not true at all.
In fact, the more money they have, the more they will spend on its nuclear program and not on improving the quality of life in Iran. I support the idea of a stricter policy towards the regime regarding sanctions.
We need to know every dollar spent on upgrading and strengthening the nuclear and military apparatus against the people, increasing the nuclear capacity to intimidate and dominate not only the people of Iran but also the region against the Middle East countries, and contributing greatly to destabilization of the Middle East ”. The conference was witnessed by a group of victims of the crimes of the clerical regime, including Mrs. Zohreh Shafaei, a former political prisoner, whose parents, two brothers and a sister were executed, Mrs. Safora Sadidi, whose father was executed during the 1988 massacre and her uncle in the 2013 Ashraf massacre. Mrs. Azadeh Alemi, who was executed by her two uncles and the wife of an uncle and her mother has been imprisoned for many years. She was in jail with her mother as a child.
