Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell has recently revealed a very special story during his time with the Londoners.
Everything is related to the coach Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea from 3 June 2004 to 20 September 2007 during his first spell in London.
Sidwell reveals the moment when the team was informed of the club’s decision to leave Mourinho, and the former midfielder says that the “stars” of the Londoners at that time, such as Drogba, Terry and Lampard, could not hold back the tears for this decision.
“I was driving when I heard on the radio that Mourinho had left the team. At that moment I simply thought what will happen now with the team. When I went to the training center, the team had assembled and Mourinho was introduced there for the last time. He was there to confirm the news of his departure and I remember very well that while he spoke there was not a sound. It felt as if someone had died, it was a strange silence. Those who had and were known as players with strong character, Drogba, Terry or even Lampard started crying. I was upset too, it was really weird.” Sidwell said.
Steve Sidwell, born in England, was part of Chelsea for one season, 2007-2008 and was active in 25 matches and scored 1 goal, while during his career he was also part of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Fulham and Stoke City.
