Crime in the country has increased by 7.5% more than in 2020.
According to INSTAT statistics, for 2021 a total of 35,175 criminal offenses have been identified and in relation to the population in 2021, 125.1 criminal offenses per 10 thousand inhabitants have been identified, from 115.4 in 2020.
Domestic violence, drug crimes, traffic violations, premeditated murder, fraud and theft by abuse of office have increased, compared to last year, while the rest of the criminal offenses have decreased.
Authors of criminal offenses
In 2021, 39,328 perpetrators were registered for criminal offenses, 4.0% less, compared to 2020.
Meanwhile, the number of perpetrators without recidivism in criminal offenses in 2021 is 35,745 perpetrators, 1.5% more, compared to 2020.
In 2021, 33.8% of the authors are in the age group 30-44 years, 28.1% in the age group 18-29 years and 22.1% belong to the age group 45-59 years. Even in relation to the population, the ranking of authors by age groups is the same.
Damaged
In 2021, 16,910 injured persons were registered, 5.2% less, compared to 2020. Injured persons for crimes against the person constitute 37.9% of the total injured persons.
In 2021, in the total number of injured persons for crimes against the person, girls make up 27.8% of the injured parties and the largest percentage of them is observed in sexual crimes, crimes against morality and dignity as well as crimes against children, marriage and family.
Criminal proceedings
In 2021, the number of registered criminal proceedings is 28,349, 1.8% more, compared to 2020.
Out of 25,688 completed criminal proceedings, 23.3% of them were dismissed, 34.7% were suspended and 42% were sent to court for trial.
Defendants
In 2021, 16,196 defendants were registered, 20.8% more, compared to 2020. Men account for 94.9% of the total number of defendants.
Prisoners
In 2021 the number of prisoners in penitentiary institutions is 4,956, 7.4% more, compared to 2020.
In relation to the population, in 2021 there are 18 prisoners per 10 thousand inhabitants, out of 16 prisoners who were a year ago. Men make up 98.7% of the total prisoners.
The 21-29 age group has the highest rate of prisoners in relation to the population, while those over 60 and under 20 have the lowest rate.
