Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is holding a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the Ukraine crisis.
Three days ago, Bennett, who has proposed Israeli mediation between Russia and Ukraine, spoke with the leaders of both countries.
The first call was with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The latter said on Twitter that they spoke of “Russian aggression”. The Kremlin later issued a statement saying Bennett had launched a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin, the Kremlin said, told Bennett that consideration of Moscow’s security interests was among the key conditions for resolving the conflict.
Israel has good relations with Moscow and Kiev. He voted the resolution in the UN General Assembly on Wednesday to rebuke Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, although Bennett’s rhetoric has been cautious.
With the permission of Kiev, Bennett is committed to finding a solution for the peace delegations to find a consensus, while expressing his solidarity for Ukraine, sending it humanitarian aid.
