The police in Denmark believe that the shooting attack in a shopping center, where as a result three people were killed and four others were seriously injured, has nothing to do with terrorism.
The authorities also said today that the perpetrator of the attack, who was arrested at the scene, acted alone without a premeditated plan.
The shooting at a shopping mall on the outskirts of Copenhagen is being described as unprovoked. The chief inspector of the Danish capital’s police said that the suspected perpetrator of the attack acted alone without any concrete plan, while he shot randomly at his victims.
“We will file a preliminary charge of manslaughter. None of the data from the investigations we have carried out so far, from the documents we have examined, the things we have found, or the statements of the witnesses we have received, can prove that we are dealing with a terrorist act”. says Mr. Thomassen.
The chief inspector of the Copenhagen police confirmed that the victims are a boy and a girl, both 17 years old, both with Danish citizenship, as well as a Russian citizen, 47 years old. They were killed when the gunman, a 22-year-old man who was arrested at the scene, opened fire on Sunday afternoon at the Field shopping mall, one of the largest malls in all of Scandinavia.
Four other people were injured, whose condition is described as critical, but stable. Several other people received minor injuries as they tried to leave the mall.
Witnesses interviewed by the media say that the situation was chaotic and people were running around, not knowing where they were going.
“When the police arrived at the scene, people kept running. It was panic, it was not clear what was happening.” says Mrs. Stolz, one of the witnesses of the event.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederisken said the country had been hit by a “cruel attack”.
On Sunday evening, British singer Harry Styles canceled his concert that was expected to be held near the shopping center where the shooting took place. On his Twitter profile, the singer expressed his condolences to the residents of Copenhagen and the families of the victims affected by the bloody incident./VOA
