A coronavirus testing center was hit today by a deliberate explosion in a small town in the Netherlands.
Police said the seemingly deliberate explosion took place in Bovenkarspel, north of Amsterdam, but no one was injured.
The blast occurred at the test plant in Bovenkarspel at 6.55am before the center opened.
Authorities said the bomb was artisanal, and the remains of the explosive device were found at the entrance to the building.
Police spokesman Menno Hartenberg said the vehicle “was parked there”.
“We do not know exactly what the vehicle that exploded was, this will be investigated by experts. “But it does not seem to have been an accident.”
Officers have cordoned off the blast area, 35 miles north of the capital Amsterdam but have yet to make any arrests.
The testing center opened in November and can perform up to 800 tests a day.
The incident comes shortly before the March 17 national elections, which are seen as a referendum for the Dutch government on how to deal with the pandemic crisis.
The region where the outbreak occurred states that there are currently 181 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 27 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on average in the country.
The Netherlands currently operates the curfew from 21.00 to 05.30.
