Some members of the French parliament have reported receiving death threats as the country debates banning the unvaccinated from the country’s public life.
The government wants to pass the law requiring people to show the vaccination document to enter transport and public facilities, but the move has angered opponents of vaccines.
For months France has been asking people to show either the vaccination test or the Covid negative test to enter public places.
But the government has suddenly decided to remove the testing option for the disease, according to it by adding cases with coronavirus variants.
The French government says 91% of the population in the country is vaccinated.
Yesterday, Agnès MP Firmin Le Bodo, of the center-right party ‘Agir’, published an email she received with life-threatening graphics, in support of the vaccination program.
“Our democracy is in danger,” wrote Le Bodo, a pharmacist who has also vaccinated people against Covid.
Last week Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said police would strengthen protection for officials elected before the vote on the vaccination passport.
Barbara Bessot Balls of the ruling coalition ‘En Marche!’ said the deputies had received death threats because of their “attack on democracy”.
During the pandemic many critics have accused the government of French President Emmanuel Macron of violating human freedoms with harsh pandemic rules.
Numerous protests have taken place in the country against restrictions and forced vaccination.
