In Tirana, the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, and former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, exchanged accusations today for yesterday’s protest.
They blamed each other for the consequences the protest left behind, for the injuries of the participants and the material damages.
Prime Minister Rama also reacted to the protest, describing it as a serious event.
Well-known analyst Blendi Ceka says for “Voice of America” that the Democratic Party failed to resolve an internal conflict through political mechanisms.
A day after yesterday’s protest, the leading politicians of the left and right expressed the same attitudes against each other as before, regarding the rally and the need to reorganize the opposition.
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, said that former Prime Minister Sali Berisha used violence yesterday against the headquarters and the people of the opposition, provoking victimization of the participants and that today he returned to the crime scene, smiling at the ruins he caused with his followers. lied.
“Let no one think that these violent events orchestrated by the Bermuda Triangle (Rama – Berisha – Meta) will deter the Democratic Party in its efforts for reorganization. On the contrary. It is from these ruins left behind by yesterday’s violence organized by Mr. Berisha, the Democratic Party will be rebuilt and will return the majority to power, while those who stole and distorted its political will will be held accountable for the crimes and corruption they are committing. along with their servant oligarchs. “Most Albanians want change,” said Mr Basha.
The organizer of yesterday’s protest, Sali Berisha, told the media in the courtyard of the DP headquarters that the protest was peaceful, and that the peaceful revolution could not be stopped.
“I came here on behalf of the temporary organizing commission to express our deep respect for the heroes of January 8, who proved to everyone that no one can stop the efforts to consolidate political pluralism in Albania,” said Mr. Berisha.
Well-known researcher of political developments in Albania, Dr. Blendi Ceka, says that an extraordinary failure was marked yesterday for Messrs. Basha and Berisha and for the entire bureaucracy of the Democratic Party.
“The PD figures have been invested for 30 years by the society, and they still do not have a mechanism that resolves disputes, but instead line up as client groups without giving any political alternative, without providing any immunity to the party as a structure with normal functioning, which seriously questions its existence, for what reason it should exist if it does not find understanding between the different points of view within it “, says Mr. Ceka.
The well-known analyst, a member of the political science department at the University of Tirana, says that the main political parties, including the Socialist Party, have lagged behind society, and society has surpassed them.
“Parties have become clientelistic enterprises, which in themselves do not share beliefs, do not share associations, and have many problems with representing society. What happened to the Democratic Party is due to the fact that it has turned into a clientelist enterprise with private shareholders, who see the political entity merely as an instrument to take power and derive profits. This is a long-term crisis, which culminated with what happened on Saturday. “This is a degradation that came in time in both the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party, which keeps the balance simply because it is in power,” said Mr. Ceka.
For yesterday’s protest, there were also comments from Prime Minister Edi Rama, who described it as a serious, absurd, extreme and ridiculous event at the same time.
“Yesterday’s event was a very serious event for the Democrats and for all Albanians and for Albania itself. It was absurd news, completely surprising, as serious as it is funny, that in a democratic country the headquarters of the opposition party is violently attacked by its own supporters, it is something that has never happened in my knowledge, in the history of the democratic world, “something extreme, something that goes beyond any logic,” said Mr. Rama.
While the researcher Ceka says that the intervention of the police was professional and avoided bigger disasters, while the accusations that each party makes to it are attempts to link its rival with the government.
While these developments, according to him, can bring positive fruits, because the truths are being seen openly and so solutions can be found more easily.
Mr. Ceka added that he hopes that the developments will bring the maturity of the policy and its greater rapprochement with the citizens.
“I believe that it is better to have this kind of confrontation than to have hypocrisy. Today we actually have more than half of the society that votes against the government, but on the other hand we have an opposition without any kind of legitimacy, degraded from the point of view of organization, without alternative and without hope. This is the reality and should be seen as it is. It is better for societies to face this truth than to have fictitious position-opposition balances, which distort society more than this protest that took place. This can become a good crisis, it can bring serious reflections to have substantive developments on the side of the opposition. “The same is needed for the socialists,” says Mr. Ceka.
Supporters of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha attacked and severely damaged the Democratic Party headquarters. The protest called against the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, immediately became violent, so there were several injuries and arrests.
Despite the resistance of people from inside the building, the protesters penetrated inside the building, after destroying for several hours the attack with iron devices the doors closed with metal elements.
US, European and OSCE diplomats condemned the violence and called on organizers to reduce the tension of the protest, which was dispersed by police.
