The year 2020 prevented physical visits to primary care centers in the country, by restrictive measures from the Covid-19 pandemic, but in some counties citizens have been more active in contacting the family doctor than, in some other counties.
According to INSTAT data, it can be seen that the citizens of Dibra had the largest number of contacts with the doctor. On average in 2020 a county resident contacted a family doctor in primary care 3.7 times. The second for the large number of visits were the citizens of Gjirokastra with 3.5 visits per inhabitant. Gjirokastra has the oldest population in the country and as a result there are more chronically ill people who require more frequent health services. The residents of Lezha further rank with 3.3 contacts with the family doctor during the year.
On the other hand, the inhabitants of Kukës had the lowest number of contacts with the family doctor in the country with only 1.9 visits per inhabitant in 2020 and further Durrës with 2 contacts per inhabitant.
The primary health care service is the first point of contact of the population for solving health problems. The basic institutions that provide these services are polyclinics, health centers, ambulances and special services for children and women.
The largest number of these institutions is concentrated in the regions where the population is highest, in Tirana, Elbasan and Fier. During 2020, the average number of contacts of the population in the primary service at the national level is 2.6 contacts per person.
On the other hand each individual can influence his / her chances of having a long and healthy life by adapting his / her lifestyle choices, such as medical check-ups, physical activity, healthy eating and eliminating risky behaviors for health such as: alcohol consumption, smoking, prevention of road accidents, etc.
In 2020, in Albania the number of deaths from all causes was 27,605. The number of deaths at the national level marks an increase of 25.8%, compared to a year ago. At the regional level, Lezha and Tirana have the highest increase in the number of deaths, respectively 34.2% and 32.3%.
Meanwhile, Vlora and Dibra have recorded the lowest increase in deaths, respectively 10.6% and 9.3%. / Monitor /
