Tennis star Novak Djokovic has lost his trial in Australia after his visa was revoked due to coronavirus vaccination problems and is now expected to be deported.
Judges rejected his appeal after the government revoked the visa of the unvaccinated player for the second time this month for reasons of public health safety.
The decision has ended the 34-year-old Serbian’s hopes of defending his Australian Open title and winning a 21st Grand Slam.
Djokovic said he was “extremely disappointed”, but respected the decision.
“I will cooperate with the relevant authorities regarding my departure from the country,” he said in a statement.
The tennis player was scheduled to play his first match on Monday.
During Sunday’s hearing before a three-judge panel, Djokovic’s lawyer argued unsuccessfully that the reasons given by the government were “invalid and illogical”.
The Serbian tennis player will remain in custody in Melbourne until his deportation.
