Nearly 100 people have died as a result of landslides and floods in the Brazilian city of Petropolis, officials have said.
This city, which is located near the mountains of Rio de Janeiro has been hit by torrential rains.
The houses were destroyed and the cars were flooded.
Search-and-rescue teams are digging in the mud to find any survivors.
Brazil’s National Civil Defense said on Twitter that 24 people have been rescued alive so far, while 94 deaths have been confirmed.
“The situation is almost like a war. “Hanging cars, overturned cars, a lot of mud and water,” Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro told reporters.
Petropolis is a popular destination for tourists.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is on an official visit to Russia, has said he will arrange immediate assistance to the victims.
This is one of a series of torrential rains that have hit Brazil in the last three months.
Scientists have said that this situation is being exacerbated by climate change.
