Adele, Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa were among the pop stars who received a British award on Tuesday night. Dua Lipa received the third prize for best Pop / RnB artist. It’s her sixth British award.

Adele and Sheeran top the nominations at tonight’s awards along with Little Simz and Dave all with four nominations each, while singer-songwriter Sam Fender, Central Cee and producer David Guetta are vying for three awards each. Olivia Rodrigo received the second prize for International Song of the Year with Good 4 U. Accepting the award, the 18-year-old American singer said: “Last year in Britain was my first performance ever, so receiving this award tonight is so surreal . ”
The fourth prize, for best Alternative / Rock act, went to singer-songwriter Sam Fender. Accepting the award from Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, he said: “Thank you fans. You guys are the best – that’s why we’re here. ” Nominations for the Brit Awards this year feature more women in more than a decade, with 18 female artists or entire female groups.
The British Academy faced pressure to remove its specific men and women awards this year and has removed the gender categories. Organizers said they wanted to make the music industry event “as comprehensive as possible.” Mayor Tom March said it was “the right time to celebrate the achievements of artists for the music they create and the work they do regardless of gender.”
