Saturday marked, for the 15th year in a row, the tradition of the hourglass, where people around the world turned off the lights for an hour.
Earth Hour is an annual tradition started by the World Wide Fund (WWF) in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, to raise awareness of climate change. Participants in more than 190 countries turned off their lights for an hour on Saturday.
Global landmarks – including the Sydney Opera House, the Gateway of India, the Phoenix Center in Beijing, China, the Brandenburg Gate in Germany, the Colosseum in Italy, the Empire State Building in the United States and Brazil – turned off their lights to show campaign support.
Earth Hour aims to raise awareness and spark global talks on nature conservation, tackling the climate crisis and work to shape a better future in this regard. Earth Hour campaign has led to other actions related to curbing climate change.
