Elon Musk has been confronted with accusations that his satellite project for internet services, Starlink, is taking up a lot of space.
But the owner of the company, SpaceX, rejects such claims with a simple reasoning according to him: up there is room for everyone.
“Tens of billions” of satellites could be placed in orbit near Earth, he told the Financial Times.
Earlier, Josef Aschbacher, head of the European Space Agency, complained that Musk was “imposing rules” on the commercial space industry.
This week China sounded the alarm, saying its space station narrowly avoided collision with Starlink satellites. This logic does not convince Musk.
“That being said, the space is extremely large and the satellites are very small,” he said, while rejecting suggestions that his project is preventing competitors from entering the satellite industry.
“We are not in the situation at all to block others. We have not blocked anyone, nor do we claim such a thing. Thousands of satellites are nothing. They are, so to speak, several thousand cars on Earth“, Argued the billionaire.
SpaceX has launched about 1,900 satellites in space as part of the Starlink project and plans to launch thousands more in the future.
