A long line of trucks formed on the Poland-Belarus border as Russian and Belarusian drivers tried to leave EU territory after a deadline set by Western sanctions.
On the eve of Saturday deadline, the queue reached 80 km, where many of the trucks were on standby for 33 hours.
The EU has banned trucks from Russia and Belarus other than those transporting medicines, mail or petroleum products from entering or staying on the block. This action is part of the sanctions for the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
Drone footage recorded by the Reuters news agency showed long queues that remained blocked as the midnight deadline approached. even a few hours after the deadline, the waiting time was reduced to 12 hours, the BBC said, with the number of trucks at two border crossings reaching between 230-400 vehicles.
However, it is still unclear what will happen to the thousands of other trucks from the two remaining countries in the EU area, it is said that one possibility is that they could be seized by national authorities.
The EU and many other Western countries have imposed punitive sanctions against Russia and its main ally Belarus.
