The leadership of the European Union (EU) and the leaders of the EU member states met in Brussels with the leaders of Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
The EU-Eastern Partnership Summit is attended by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the leaders of the 27 EU countries and the presidents or prime ministers of the five Eastern Partnership countries.
Belarus, which was previously in the Eastern Partnership, is not at the summit after suspending its membership due to problems with the EU.
At the summit, where Russia’s military activity on the Ukrainian border is expected to be on the agenda, the EU’s political and economic relations with the five countries are being discussed.
The EU is expected to call on the Eastern Partnership countries to accelerate political, economic and judicial reforms. The EU is projected to give the green light to a new 2.3 billion-euro regional economic investment plan for the five countries.
EU officials say the amount to be allocated to each country under the 2.3 billion-euro investment plan proposed by the EU Commission in July will depend on progress in structural reforms and the type of projects that will present the countries./AA/
