EU warns of further sanctions on Russia: We are also gathering evidence of war crimes

“Shocked by the images, the atrocities committed by the Russian army in the liberated region of Kiev. The EU is assisting Ukraine and NGOs in gathering the necessary evidence to pursue the case in international courts. “Sanctions and further EU support will come very soon.”

Human Rights Watch, meanwhile, said it had documented several cases in which the Russian military had violated civilian law in the occupied Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Kiev regions of Ukraine.

Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk said on April 2 that close to 300 locals had been killed at a time when the city was under Russian occupation. Nearly 280 are suspected to be buried in a mass grave. Serious images from this city, where the bodies of residents are seen on the streets, have been shared on social networks.

The International Criminal Court has previously opened an investigation into alleged war crimes by Russian forces in Ukraine. The Human Rights Watch report states that rapes were also documented, two cases of executions involving seven victims, and other cases of threats and violence against civilians.
