The Netherlands, Sweden and Germany have pledged $ 2.7 million to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to support its investigation into possible war crimes committed in Ukraine.
The EU Foreign Ministers met in Luxembourg via video conference with the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, in a meeting convened by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wopke Hoekstra.
After the meeting, Hoekstra said: “The establishment of the Criminal Court is one of the most important paths to justice for Ukrainians. “The Netherlands wants justice for the victims of the Russian occupation.”
Hoekstra pledged more than $ 1 million on behalf of the Netherlands to the ICC to support its investigation, while Germany said in a press release that it would support Ukraine with an additional $ 1 million in court.
Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde announced in a statement that Sweden will also provide an additional half a million euros, saying the Court needs the full support of the international community.
Last week, the European Union allocated $ 8 million to support and train Ukrainian prosecutors in investigating potential war crimes.
The ICC formally launched an investigation into the situation in Ukraine on March 2.
