As Europe prepares for a visit by President Joe Biden, the first details of the US administration chief’s stay in Brussels have emerged.
Biden will have intensive meetings with NATO and European Union leaders to discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“On March 24, the US president will join a special NATO summit, where he will reaffirm the ‘iron’ US commitment to protecting allies,” said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. . On the same day, he will be part of the planned European Council summit to coordinate the transatlantic response to the Russian occupation of Ukraine. Reacting to the news that the Kremlin had added Biden to the list of individuals banned from entering Russia, Jen Psaki said this would have no impact on the president’s schedule.
She even mocked this Moscow movement. “None of us are planning tourist trips to Russia, none of us have bank accounts there, the access of which Moscow will ban us, so we will move forward,” she said ironically, noting that Russian sanctions do not do not in any way offend the American head of state, or the people close to him.
Russia also imposed sanctions the day before on former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, current Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
