Faebook and Instagram could be shut down in Europe. This is the latest idea from social media owner Mark Zukenberg.
The problem lies in the personal data of social network users, which must be transferred from Europe to US servers.
The news that has been circulating in some international media for days is creating concern among Facebook and Instagram users of the old continent.
The idea was included in the annual report submitted last Thursday by Facebook executives to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. market authority. In the document, Meta writes that in the absence of universally accepted rules that allow the movement of personal data between Europe and the United States, we will not be able to offer Facebook and Instagram services in Europe.
It all stemmed from a ruling by the European Court of Justice in July 2020, which decided to overturn an agreement between the EU and the US on the transfer of personal data from one part of the ocean to another. Since that day, attempts to find a new deal have always failed and now Zukenberg can make that drastic decision.
