Fierce fighting broke out early in the morning over a large area north-west of Kiev.
According to reports the enemy is destroying Bucha, Hostomel, Vorzel and Irpin.
“They are deliberately killing civilians,” said Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko.
Numerous reports speak of heavy fire in all four counties on Monday as civilians continue to flee the fighting.
“We are doing everything in the capital to support the city, to create a stockpile of essential food, medicine and merchandise. We are distributing and providing assistance to those most in need today. Humanitarian aid was also sent to Chernihiv, a city north of Kiev“, Added Klitschko.
He added, “We are trying to deliver to Bucha and Hostomel. We are forming humanitarian cargo for several other cities. The capital is preparing for defense. “I urge all residents of Kiev to remain calm, to stay at home or, in case of alarm, in shelters.”
Hostomel Mayor Yuriy Prylypko was killed while “distributing bread to the hungry and medicine to the sick, comforting the desperate,” according to the city’s Facebook page. Two other people were killed along with him.
This is the twelfth day of fighting between Russia and Ukraine. The latter has made a high resistance against Russian troops and bombing.
According to the UN, 1.5 million Ukrainians have fled the country and over 11,000 Russian soldiers have lost their lives. Meanwhile, 364 Ukrainian civilians have been killed by continuous Russian attacks since February 24.
