The elevators of the palaces are becoming more and more a problem for the residents as a result of successive and various defects.
Almost every day, frightened citizens use elevators without knowing whether they are certified or tested within all technical conditions. During the month of May, 3 different cases of elevator malfunctions occurred within just a few hours!
On May 15, 2022, an elevator at the Mother Teresa Hospital Center was disconnected and as a result, a patient and the accompanying nurse were injured.
And a day later, on May 16, in a building complex near Kavaja Street, an elevator was engulfed in flames, resulting in only material damage. And only within a few hours on the same day another elevator was engulfed by flames in the 1 Maji neighborhood of the city of Vlora.
Fiks Fare camera, in a few days observation has noticed that many residential complexes do not have an elevator that can have all the security elements. And moreover residents of these complexes tell their experiences of incidents that happened to them in the elevator.
An elderly woman points out that when she is in situations where she is stuck in the elevator, she jumps a few times into it and then has to open it forcefully from the inside, as the administrators are not always in those moments.
To better understand what a real elevator should look like and to get a closer look at the situation, Fiks Fare journalists in collaboration with a licensed elevator technician, Renaldo Staka have conducted an observation in an area of the capital.
Where from this observation it resulted that this elevator had to be blocked by the State Inspectorate of Market Surveillance, because it was out of any technical standard. With unsafe ropes, holes filled with paper and cigarette butts.
Arben Dervishaj, secretary of the Builders Association in Albania says that regarding the problems of elevators there are 2 things. The part that must be completed by the construction company and the rest that belongs to the residents or those who will use it.
“When we talk about construction companies, they do the whole procedure because it cannot be tested. There are some precise protocols for defining them. A technical inspection, all technical tests, should be done to see how the systems work and are described in the elevator book. “Elevators need a routine maintenance that should be done by specialized companies.”he says.
He then explains that once in 20-25 years the engine needs to be replaced has the time of aging. If the elevators were to be maintained according to the protocol and as required by the technical inspectorate, we would not have these problems. The elevator should definitely be checked once a year. These elevators are taken over by the inspectorate, which has the duty to take them.
“The role of the inspectorate should be increased, maybe the human resources of the inspectorate are small for all this amount of elevators. “He has full rights on paper but we are not seeing anything.” concludes Mr. Dervishaj.
Regarding the response that the State Inspectorate of Market Surveillance sent to the editorial office of Fiks Fare regarding the number of elevators registered with this institution, the number of inspectors, licensing structures for these devices, as well as the controls that have been made throughout a viti.
This institution told us that a total of 1429 elevators are registered, while for the period April 2021-2022 only 336 inspections were performed. The State Inspectorate of Market Surveillance has a total of 4 Directors with 80 employees in total.
Regarding the licensing structure of elevators in our country, these companies are private, ISMT does not have such a structure.
