A months-long investigation by the Kosovo Justice team, then aired in three separate parts in January 2019, revealed exclusive footage of the link between smugglers and police officers in northern Kosovo for smuggling.
These links between smugglers and police officers were stated by a person who himself smuggled goods through illegal routes.
He explained in detail how the chain worked, at what points the money was left and to which police officers were involved.
The scheme was even more powerful when the smugglers knew exactly which police officers were in certain shifts and with whom they would talk to enable smuggling without being hindered by anyone through illegal routes from Serbia to Kosovo.
Involved in this connection for cooperation with police officers for smuggling were also two of the 13 Kosovo Serbs, Milan and Milojko Radisavljevic who have recently been sanctioned by the United States.
In one of the ‘Justice in Kosovo’ shows, one of the smugglers said that there were several grocery stores and gas stations where they left the money for police officers who then allowed the entry of trucks through illegal routes, which transported goods to various illegally.
I will go to the store called “Guri” where the money is left for the police or the shift chief. “For every entry or exit, you are obliged to pay and leave the money in the store”, says the citizen who, like many others, smuggled various goods through illegal routes.
He even gave details on which fuel pumps the money was left for police officers to allow the entry of vehicles with smuggled goods.
He further pointed out and explained that not all vehicles entering through illegal roads paid the same amount.
“For a simple truck 50 euros, for a van from 50 to 100 euros”, continues the story of the same.
Another issue the smuggler confessed to was that often police officers or shift chiefs drove out in private cars to raise money for trucks smuggled through illegal routes.
