Finland appears as one of the countries that most strongly supports the quick resolution of the visa liberalization impasse for Kosovo.
In fact, she is insisting that this situation be resolved within a few months, and from what the Finnish Minister of European Affairs, Tytti Tuppurainen, said in Pristina, the hope is that the green light will come in the fall.
The Ministry took care to emphasize that its country fully supports the Euro-Atlantic process of Kosovo and the countries of the Western Balkan region.
“We support visa liberalization. Now is the time, after fulfilling the criteria, visa liberalization should come. Kosovo is the only country in the Western Balkans that has not benefited from liberalization, and it is time to move forward. We have supported the negotiations that speak in favor of Kosovo in this regard. So I can say that I am optimistic that we will continue to make progress on this issue and I believe that in the coming months, maybe this fall, we will see positive results.” said Tytti Tuppurainen.
Kosovo is the only country in the region whose citizens are subject to the visa regime for travel to the Schengen area.
Although it has met the EU criteria for this process and the European Parliament and the European Commission have recommended a positive decision, the long-awaited step for visas has not yet been taken.
Tuppurainen, who is on a visit there along with the Irish minister for European affairs, Thomas Byrne, said they also support the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia that is mediated by the European Union.
They made it clear that they expect greater progress to be made in this process, as they described dialogue as the best platform to resolve differences between Pristina and Belgrade and to advance Kosovo’s European perspective.
