US President Joe Biden will meet this Friday with Ukrainian refugees at the Polish-Ukrainian border. More than two million Ukrainians have fled to Poland to escape the fighting.
One month after the invasion of Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told European countries that they acted too late against the Moscow threat, suggesting that previous sanctions may have prevented the war.
He urged them not to “delay” in approving Ukraine’s application to join the EU.
Zelensky’s speech followed an intense day of summits in Brussels between Western countries against the Russian occupation.
Biden said NATO would “respond” if Russia used chemical weapons in Ukraine, but gave no details on how. The West has warned of such a scenario as the war in Ukraine is ‘dragging on’ in its fifth week.
NATO also confirmed it would send 40,000 troops in total to Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, countries bordering Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson told the BBC that Ukraine could win the war, but Putin did not seem interested in peace.
On the battlefield, a Russian ship was wrecked in the port city of Berdyansk on Thursday, according to Ukrainian officials.
