Today in Vlora a protest was held called by the civil society for the project of reconstruction of the Flag Square.
Many citizens of Vlora, but also people from other cities of the country, have gathered near the independence monument. According to civil society representatives, Prime Minister Edi Rama not only did not demolish the multi-storey building built for years in the historic square, but also built other boilers, which according to them is the bus terminal.
In addition they say that one of his symbols, 4 Balls, has left this place. Protesters have expressed that they will not allow what is happening here demanding even responsibility for the bill the construction of the bus terminal. “Do not let history destroy us,” said the protesters.
Citizens say they have never been asked or consulted about any change being made to Flag Square. Protesters with national symbols have confirmed that they will not allow what they called national dignity to be trampled on.
The day before, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted to this protest by accusing the opposition of organizing protests against the urbanization of this city.
“People in Vlora tell me that they want revolt because they want transparency for the Flag Square project! It seems to them that the colonnades are like a bus station and they want the demolition of their ghost hotel, which the famous Belgian architect turns into the biggest socio-cultural center of the country!
It is not their fault that they neither know nor can do anything other than muddy flats, but Flag Square will be another urban spectacle in the Renaissance Vlora, which I can not wait to see realized despite the socio-cultural center, which will give Vlora a new dimension! ” wrote Rama on Twitter.
