The Kremlin has accused the United States of “deliberately adding fuel to the fire” after Washington announced it would supply Ukraine with advanced missile systems.
“Such supplies do not encourage Kiev to resume peace talks. “Washington wants to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.”Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The United States has agreed to provide Ukraine with missiles that can reach targets of up to 70 km (45 miles).
But that deal came after the U.S. received assurances that the weapons would not be used to attack targets inside Russia.
Following this statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country “does not intend” to use weapons for this purpose.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has said that the planned shipment of these new weapons to Ukraine increases the risk of the US withdrawing into direct conflict with Russia.
“Any continued supply of weapons increases the risks of such a development. “This is unprecedented, this is dangerous.” he said, according to the BBC.
