A burqa queen formerly crowned as Miss Brazil has tragically died at the age of 27 after a faulty tonsillectomy procedure.
Gleycy Correia, from Macae, in southeastern Brazil, died on June 20 after surgery left the deceased with massive bleeding that caused cardiac arrest.
Correia died at a private clinic after spending about two months in a coma from surgery she underwent in April.
Five days after the operation she had started bleeding which left her in a coma until she passed away the day before.
Correia was crowned Miss e and Miss Costa do Sol in 2018.
In a statement, Miss Brazil Officials wrote: “Gleycy will always be remembered for her beauty, joy and sympathy.”
Pastor Jak Abreu, who knew Gleycy’s family, wrote on social media that her family believed she had made mistakes during the operation.
“God chose this day to take our princess,” said Pastor Abreu.
“We know the shortage will be huge. “But we will rejoice from heaven with her smile.”
Gleycy had more than 52,000 followers on social media.
After she fell into a coma the site began to be used for prayer.
The deceased had often spoken of her simple origins, growing up in poverty in Brazil.
She had started working as a model since she was a teenager after working as a manicurist in a beauty salon.
“We never know how strong we are until this is the only choice,” she once wrote on Instagram.
“I was not born in a cradle of gold, I come from a very simple family, but I am very proud of that,” wrote the deceased.
