Four members of the same family, including an eight-year-old girl, were found dead under a building today while a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured, Swiss police said.
The fifth person is in serious condition in the hospital after suggestions that the fifth was thrown from the balcony of the building in Montreux, writes the British Metro.co.uk.
In a statement, police identified the dead as a 40-year-old man, his 41-year-old wife, the latter’s twin sister and the couple’s 8-year-old daughter.
The 15-year-old seriously injured was the couple’s son.
Police added that the victims were all French citizens and that shortly before the incident the police had gone to the apartment with a warrant regarding the home education of a child.
The Swiss daily Blick quoted a police source as saying that all five had been thrown from the balcony.
The French-language Swiss daily Le Temps quoted neighbors as saying the apartment was home to a family of five, including two teenagers and a grandmother.
Neighbor Claude Rouiller was quoted as saying, “We did not hear anything from their house.”
Police spokeswoman Alexandre Bisenz said she could not yet confirm media reports of the incident.
Bisenz added that investigations are ongoing and that the group was found dead Thursday morning outside the building near the Casino Barriere resort.
Police said: “The presence of another press in the apartment at the time of the event can be ruled out at this stage of the investigation.”
He added that two officers had previously knocked on the door of the apartment and had identified themselves. “But without being able to contact the subscribers, they left,” police said.
“Meanwhile, a witness had informed the authorities that some people had fallen from the balcony of an apartment,” the authorities added.
The lakeside town is known as a favorite tourist spot especially for its jazz festival.
Today the footage showed a funeral car entering the fenced area, as well as the crane of a fire truck rising towards the apartments.
Police and emergency teams had set up white tents on a balcony of the building.
