G7 leaders today closed their summit in Bavaria, Germany, pledging to make Russia pay for what it is doing in Ukraine.
“It is very clear that it is not the West that opposes the rest of the world, but the side of peace against that of war. “Russia cannot and should not win, and therefore our support for Ukraine and our sanctions against Russia will continue for as long as necessary, with the necessary intensity in the coming weeks and months.” said Macron.
“We all agree that President Putin should not win this war and we will continue to increase the cost economically and politically for President Putin.” said Scholz.
The leaders agreed, among other things, to consider imposing a ban on the transportation of Russian oil sold above a certain price.
Setting a price cap would be a way to prevent Russia from taking advantage of its invasion of Ukraine, which has pushed up energy prices.
G7 leaders also agreed to push for a ban on Russian gold imports.
