The largest white diamond will go on sale in Geneva next week, as part of an auction by Christie’s featuring two stones, more than 200 carats each.
Christie’s manager said selling them is a big event for them.
“The 228-carat Rock Diamond is the largest white diamond ever offered at auction. Over 200 carats, it is a truly extraordinary pear shaped diamond. It is perfectly symmetrical. And it is estimated from 20 to 30 million dollars.
Diamond prices have been raised by sanctions against Russia’s largest producer.
The white diamond, “The Rock” was worn by its former owner as a necklace by Cartier. The yellow, pillow-shaped stone has been dubbed the “Red Cross Diamond” as an unspecified portion of the auction proceeds will go to the Geneva-based International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This diamond was first sold by Christie’s in 1918 at an auction in London where residents sold precious household items to aid the war effort. That revenue, 10,000 10,000 (now $ 12,350), helped the British Red Cross Society.
