German Ambassador to Kosovo, Joern Rohde said that Kosovo has met the conditions for visa liberalization, but stressed that within the EU there is no unanimity on this issue.
Rohde in an interview spoke about the hottest issues facing Kosovo. The German diplomat assured the support of the Kurti government, while emphasizing that the latter should take concrete steps regarding the issue of dialogue with Serbia and not remain only in the context of statements.
“I think that Special Representative Lajcak is doing what is possible to mediate an agreement and we ask both parties to sit at the table, to try to find a compromise, because in the end, the citizens want results. “This is also the reason why this government was elected, for results, not declarations”, said the German diplomat.
He said that Kosovo has met the conditions for visa liberalization, but stressed that within the EU there is no unanimity on this issue.
“The problem is with some skeptics,” he said. We, as well as the European Commission, know that Kosovo has met all the necessary criteria. It is good that the government is now engaged with skeptical states as well and I think it will come. “There are elections in some European countries and I remain optimistic,” said Ambassador Rohde.
The German diplomat also commented on the ‘Open Balkan’ initiative, which according to him is not comprehensive, so in these conditions he supports the Berlin Process.
“The Berlin process is inclusive. If so is ‘Open Balkans’ I have not seen this yet. I have seen that three states do not participate and this is an open issue. The key is that the Berlin Process is an inclusive process. “Unfortunately, it has not produced much progress yet, also due to the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia, and we are hoping to overcome this,” said the German ambassador.
