Barcelona ended their Europa League trip with embarrassment as the Catalans lost 2-3 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Coach Xavi Hernandez’s confidants did not have the strength to face the fury of the Germans, who were also exalted by the atmosphere at the Camp Nou stadium.
More than 30,000 German fans managed to secure a ticket and feel at home even though the match was played in Spain. After the challenge, coach Xavi, but also president Joan Laporta stressed that what happened to the fans was a shame, while expecting a completely different atmosphere.
“I was expecting a Camp Nou with 70 or 80,000 Barcelona fans, but it did not happen. It was like a final in which the public is split 50 to 50. There were a lot of Germans in the stadium and I believe the club is checking what went wrong. It is certain that the calculations from our camp have not been done well “, said Xavi.
On the other hand, President Laporta added that a Camp Nou full of opposing fans should not be repeated. “I expect something like this to never happen again, it is a shame what we experienced at Camp Nou. “As a Barcelona fan, I feel ashamed and I am very sorry for what happened,” said Laporta.
