Germany and France called for the speedy formation of Kosovo’s new government and the election of a president once the election results are finalized.
In a post on Twitter, the German ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, also said that the two countries “congratulate the citizens of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, Lëvizja Vetëvendosje and Vjosa Osmani for the election result”.
The Vetëvendosje Movement, led by Albin Kurti, won the February 14th parliamentary elections in Kosovo.
Vjosa Osmani was the candidate of the Vetëvendosje list for president.
The results are still preliminary, as the votes from the diaspora, conditional votes and votes of people with special needs have remained uncounted.
Kosovo has been acting president, Ms. Osmani, since November, when Hashim Thaci resigned to face charges of war crimes in The Hague.
Last week, US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Kosnett also called on the winning parties in Kosovo to form a government “quickly and efficiently”.
