Germany will temporarily impose some border controls until the Group of Seven (G7) summit is held in this country. The G7 summit will take place from 26 to 28 June in Elmau, Germany.
Germany has ordered increased security at its border from June 13 to July 3, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
“The controls are intended to prevent possible perpetrators of violence from entering German territory,” the statement said, adding that “passengers should expect to be subjected to controls during this period.”
The Interior Ministry did not elaborate on what kind of violent threats could be expected, but several anti-summit protests are planned in the nearby town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in the Bavarian capital, Munich.
Temporary border controls will be “flexible in terms of location and time” and will be carried out “at the German inland land, air and sea borders”.
Part of the G7 are the United States, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and Italy.
