The Special Court against Crime and Corruption (GJKKO) has given this Thursday the security measure “prison arrest” for the former Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka.
At noon on December 14, the SPAK issued an arrest warrant for Lefter Koka, who served as Minister of Environment in 2013-2017.
His arrest came after he was criminally charged by the Socialist Movement for Integration.
He is accused of “abuse of office”, “money laundering” and “corruption” while running the Ministry of Environment.
Who is Lefter Koka?
He won the mandate of deputy on April 25 in the Durrës Region, but only ten days before the beginning of the work of the new Assembly, on September 1, Lefter Koka resigned from the mandate announcing his decision through a post on Facebook.
His political career began in the early 2000s.
At the beginning of the term, Koka was the mayor of Durrës, in the mandate 2003-2007.
Later, Koka, part of the SMI, would become Minister of Environment in 2013 in the first Government of Edi Rama, who joined forces with Ilir Meta, then in a broad parliamentary coalition.
In September 2017, Koka would take the post of deputy under the logo of the SMI, but this time he would stay in opposition.
In the elections of April 25, after he refused to burn his mandate with a party decision in 2019 – thus staying in Parliament – Koka joined the Socialists, where he received votes to be part of Parliament as a deputy of Durrës District.
Lefter Koka is a person who has approached politics from the business world, developing a career spanning two decades.
