The UK could have its hottest day on record this week, with temperatures forecast to reach 41C.
The BBC writes that the authorities have issued a red warning of extreme heat on Monday and Tuesday, for most of England, from London and the south-east to York and Manchester.
High temperatures are also forecast across the UK, across Wales and parts of Scotland.
London is expected to be one of the hottest places in the world on Monday, with temperatures rising over Western Sahara and the Caribbean.
Some schools have planned to close early – or not open at all – although the government has issued guidelines to keep them open.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the UK is 38.7C, in Cambridge in 2019.
