The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis has defended the idea that it is necessary that while extending the hand of friendship to Turkey, a series of measures are ready, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).
During a visit to Strasbourg as part of a ceremony for David Sassolin, the European Parliament (EP) president who passed away last week, Mitsotakis met with members of the European People’s Party.
Assessing issues related to the European Union (EU) and Turkey-Greece relations in general, Mitsotakis has defended his idea that there is no major change in Turkey’s attitude towards Greece.
“For this reason, we have implemented this two-stage approach; on the one hand we have extended our hand of friendship and on the other hand we have prepared the package of a series of restrictive measures which can be used if Turkey turns to an aggressive stance against Greece and Cyprus (southern). “In my opinion, this is a fair approach,” Mitsotakis said.
The Greek Prime Minister also stressed that there is a need for more cooperation with Turkey to form a constructive relationship on the issue of migrants.
