Gun incident on the Greek-Turkish border, an immigrant is found dead

According to this announcement at 20:50 in the area of ​​Evros in Soufli, members of the Police of the Border Guard Department have located a group of people who were riding in a plastic dinghy from the shore to Turkish land opposite in order to illegally enter Greek land through the waters of the river Evros.

To prevent this action they used flashlights and audible warnings (“Police – Come back”), but at that moment shots were heard from the opposite direction, the direction of which could not be determined due to darkness.

To ensure physical integrity, Greek police officers rushed to hide from the bullets, firing warning shots into the air, while hail from the opposite side continued at the same pace in an unknown direction.

When the boat arrived near the Greek bank of the river, five of the migrants disembarked from it, while the others returned. Four of them were thrown into the water and managed to reach the shore while swimming, while a woman was left in the waters of the river and when the police pulled her out with difficulty, they found that she had died from a gunshot wound in the back. of the right chest.

After being taken for autopsy-necropsy, according to the doctor’s assessment, the cause of death was a shot from a very close distance (several centimeters) with a small caliber weapon.

The survivors, including a minor, were questioned and found to have paid 2,000 euros for their transport to Athens to a network of traffickers in Istanbul.

This is not the first time that incidents have been reported in this part of the border between the two countries, which is exploited by groups of human traffickers. Greek authorities accuse the Turkish ones, emphasizing that they help these networks, while there are also accusations from some humanitarian organizations for the Greek police that in some cases uses the forced return of immigrants (push-backs), an accusation that Greece strongly opposes.
