The driver of the boat, Gjergji Priftuli, was arrested by the police after he lost control and the dinghy injured two vacationers the day before in Jal.
Witnesses have said that the 37-year-old man was performing dangerous maneuvers a few hundred meters from the shore and then he fell into the water. At this moment, the dinghy sped off and hit the young couple on the beach.
The footage of the boat hitting the couple of Albanian vacationers, 31 and 25 years old, who were injured, was provided by Top Channel. They were transported to the Trauma hospital in Tirana by helicopter, the Ministry of Defense announces.
It is learned that the boy suffered injuries to his ribs and face, while the girl was injured in several parts of the body.
“He lost control of the boat and as a result injured two vacationers who were on the beach, the 37-year-old man was arrested. The dinghy-type vessel is seized. Specialists for the Investigation of Crimes at the Himarë Police Station, following investigative actions, in relation to the incident that happened the day before yesterday, on Jalë beach, arrested citizen Gj. P., 37 years old, resident in Tirana. Citizen G. P., driving the dinghy-type boat, allegedly lost control and went ashore, injuring citizens AS, 31 years old, and E. Gj., 25 years old, who are currently in the Trauma hospital, under medical care“, according to the police.
The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Vlora, for further actions.
This is the first incident that happened this year with the vessels. In order to avoid these situations, the police has prohibited the use of watercraft on beaches and in certain places where they are allowed, in the sea the trajectory that the vehicles follow has been targeted.
Years ago, on many beaches, in Velipoja, Durrës and Himare, there were incidents with boats that penetrated to the shore where vacationers were swimming, injuring them.
Of these accidents, there have also been fatal cases such as the one in 2016 where a Russian vacationer lost his life while swimming after being hit by a boat.
