The small whale that had come out of the shallows off the coast of Athens a few days ago could not survive.
The news is made public by the Greek Coast Guard, which announced that one of its patrols found the lifeless body of the whale near the island of Salamis, just a few nautical miles away from the place where it had initially emerged shallow.
Although she was given first aid and injected with strong antibiotics, she could not survive. The small Zifios whale was wounded in the lower jaw, possibly by a propeller of boats or ships sailing off the coast of Attica.
Her body has been towed to the Salamina Coast Guard station, and will be buried on the island.
The story of the little whale sensitized the entire Greek public and not a few residents of the Hellenic capital went to see it on the shores of Alimos in Athens.
