Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned yesterday from his post after successive scandals and the abandonment of duties by ministers.
After his statement, the situation in Great Britain has not calmed down, as “The Times” has recently published the high figures that the politician used to arrange his house.
“The Times” has published the funds of the old scandal in which Johnson is involved, asking for help from his campaign financiers but also from the government budget to renovate the apartment in Downing Street No. 11.
Renovating the flat has cost more than £200,000 and this has been revealed by the publication of a copy of the expenditure invoice.
The items Johnson and his wife Carrie ordered from Soane, a company run by Lulu Lytle’s designer, was a 3,675-pound drinks cart based on one owned by the late dancer Rudolf Nureyev, The Independent reported.
The couple bought £2,260 worth of gold wallpaper, a pair of sofas cost more than £15,000 and £3,000 was spent on painting the hall.
They spent £4,200 on an antique chair, £7,000 on a rug, £6,000 on a lamp and another £2,500 on the shade.
The bill for the carpets and curtains was £21,280 and the tablecloth £500.
The cost of paint and installation alone went to £30,000, taking the total well over the £30,000 annual budget given to Prime Ministers by the Treasury for their accommodation.
Lord Brownlow of Shurlock Row, one of the Tory peers, was to finance the rest, but after public criticism Johnson agreed to pay for the new furniture himself.
Geidt found that Johnson had not broken the ministerial code on the deal. The Electoral Commission fined the Conservative Party £17,800 for “not correctly reporting a donation”.
As the Cabinet Office has funded part of the refurbishment, it is unclear which purchases Johnson will be allowed to take with him.
