People in many areas of the Czech Republic have been advised by firefighters to keep their windows closed due to smoke and heavy forest fires.
Parts of Switzerland’s Bohemian National Park, which sits on the German border, have been burning since Sunday.
Amid record temperatures and drought, strong winds have caused smoke to spread across the country.
According to the BBC, houses were destroyed and the smell of smoke reached the capital Prague 100 km to the south, as well as the Pardubice area, 180 km to the south-east.
Hundreds of Czech firefighters were deployed to the scene after the fire destroyed areas of forest and houses in the village of Mezna.
The flames were also threatening the countryside near the German border and dozens of people were forced to flee their homes.
Firefighters from Slovakia, Poland and Italy, as well as Germany, have responded to Czech calls for help under the EU’s civil protection mechanism.
While there were no reports of injuries from the fire, hundreds of people have been displaced from their homes since Sunday.
