Los Angeles police officers managed to pull out an injured pilot from the crashed plane just seconds before it was hit by the oncoming train.
Dramatic footage from police body cameras, subsequently posted on social media showed moments when police officers rescue the man from certain death.
Several officers are seen trying to free the pilot from the wrecked cabin, who is injured and bloodied in clothes and face.
His plane crashed onto the railroad tracks and the group managed to leave just seconds before the train showed up.
After the collision, pieces of the plane are scattered everywhere as the train destroys it, passing at full speed and hitting the siren.
The plane is believed to have crashed shortly after takeoff due to loss of engine power.
“The plane had made a failed takeoff and crashed into the rails of a populated intersection,” said police officer Luis Jimenez, who recorded the video.
“Just seconds before the impact, the police managed to rescue the pilot, a piece of debris almost hit me.”
The pilot was subsequently treated for minor injuries and was in a stable condition, while none of the passengers on the California Metrolink train were injured.
Authorities said the officers had shown bravery and quick thinking by saving the pilot’s life.
